STARCH GRANULOMATOUS PERITONITIS

Abstract
The distressful problem of granulomatous peritonitis induced by starch glove dusting powder is discussed; 3 additional cases are reported; and the literature is reviewed as to the roentgenographic manifestations, which are nonspecific for this entity per se.However, when a postoperative patient improves, then, after an interval of approximately 2 weeks, develops pain in and/or beneath the incisional area and has roentgenographic findings of a mass or ileus (paralytic or mechanical), the diagnosis of granulomatous peritonitis should be considered, particularly when he is afebrile or has only mild temperature elevations.
