Influence of Tri-Iodinated Contrast Media on Renal Function

Abstract
In 110 subjects abdominal aortography by Seldinger technique with tri-iodinated contrast media based on amidotrizoic (diatrizoic) acid was performed for a variety of indications. Glomerular filtration rate, plasma creatinine level, proteinuria, and Addis urinary count, are studied before and after aortography. No significant changes of these parameters occurred due to aortography. This applied both to subjects with normal kidneys and function and to those with restricted function and clinical signs of renal pathology. The results point to the possibility of extending the indication scope of abdominal aortography to subjects with stabilized chronic renal damage, without any major risk of subsequent renal injury.
