Abstract
Four years'' observations on C. rupestris under the natural climatic conditions of S. Nigeria indicate that anthesis occurs during the period early Jan. to mid-April 3 [plus or minus] 1 days after rainfall above a minimum value. Bud dormancy may also be broken experimentally at this time of year by watering the plant or keeping the cut ends of excised twigs under water. Watering a plant during the dry season results in the appearance of only a few flowers at the normal time but a second type of dormancy is set up which is overcome by the stimulus of a slight fall of rain or the associated fall in temperature.
