Abstract
The appearance of ventral incisional hernias (VIHs) after laparotomy is an important postoperative problem. Advances in anesthesia techniques, adequate prevention and treatment of infection during surgery, and the use of new suture materials have reduced the incidence of incisional hernias. Nevertheless, incisional hernias still occur in up to 23% of patients 13 years after surgery.1Keywords
