Abstract
The cross sections for low-energy elastic scattering of electrons from the ground state of Mg and excitation cross sections for the 31P and 33P states are calculated using the close coupling approximation. Semiempirical wavefunctions are used in the calculation. The results differ greatly from a similar calculation of Van Blerkom and an attempt is made at explaining the difference. From the T-matrix elements obtained the polarization of radiation excited by electron impact is calculated for Mg isotopes with a zero nuclear spin. Keywords
