Abstract
This article describes a binding media identification procedure for the analysis of 5 mg samples from painted ethnographic objects. It is based on modified medical diagnostic and forensic science tests and is designed to identify vegetable oils, lards, simple sugars, tree gums, starches, animal glues, casein, eggs, and blood in paint layer samples. Flow diagrams for individual tests are described as well as a binding media identification procedure and a general binding media identification flow chart. Keywords
