Criminality and Psychopathology

Abstract
The author discusses the relationship between criminality and psychopathology. He first considers the findings concerning increased criminality and schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and certain other Axis I disorders. He then discusses the role of substance abuse in violent crime. The next section of the article focuses on the personality disorders that are most common among violent offenders and the incidence of malingering in this population. Also reviewed are childhood antecedents to violent crime. The article concludes with a discussion of the most appropriate disposition of various kinds of violent offenders.
