Abstract
From 1948 on Lincoln G. Smith developed mass spectrometers based on time and frequency measurements. With his last machine he obtained an accuracy of the order of 1 to 109. After his untimely death in 1972 his unique instrument was moved to Delft, where its development is carried on.Keywords
