Abstract
The effect of rifampicin was studied on a multicellular plant in comparison with its effect on unicellular organisms. Marchantia polymorpha L. is sensitive to rifampicin and was chosen as the material. The inhibitory dose on the growth of young gemmae was established. The effect of rifampicin on the ultrastructure of the cells was investigated and it was found to inhibit the formation of plastid ribosomes and dissociate existing ribosomes into their subunits, but probably does not inhibit the synthesis of some plastid proteins, which remain visible as small granules in the stroma. The effect of rifamipicin on the chlorophyll content and on the absorption of CO2 by intact thalli and isolated chloroplasts has also been studied. Little or no change was observed. Keywords
