Social Class and Drinking Experience of Female Drunkenness Offenders

Abstract
In this study social class is related to drinking behavior. The findings support the claim that taking account of small differences in status within the lower social levels yields substantial information about drinking experience. Female drunkenness offenders who originated in modest but respectable homes tended to be more isolated from social contacts, to display a different style, to indicate a different developmental history, and to define themselves differently as drinkers. The findings also suggest a hypothesis concerning possible developmental patterns in drinking careers which would require a further longitudinal test.
