Nutrient Pathways to Extensor Tendons within the Extensor Retinacular Compartments

Abstract
Diffusion and vascular perfusion are the nutrient pathways to extensor tendons within the synoviumlined dorsal retinacular compartments. With tritiated proline used as a tracer, 58% of the nutrients to the extensor tendons were shown to be supplied by synovial diffusion. Vascular perfusion, either from the synovial mesotendon or from the proximal and distal tendinous attachments, provides the remaining nutrient supply.
