Potentiation of Amphotericin B Activity Against Trypanosoma congolense in Mice

Abstract
Amphotericin B has a high order of in vitro activity against T. congolense, whereas only limited activity is observed in vivo. The limited activity was attributed to the rapid phagocytosis of amphotericin B by cells of the reticuloendothelial system. Marked potentiation of activity was observed when intravenous treatment with amphotericin B was preceded by the blockade of the reticuloendothelial system with thorium dioxide or triamcinolone acetonide.
