Abstract
Anomalocardia brasiliana is a venerid clam which lives slightly burrowed in sandy mud of shallow water environments throughout the Caribbean region. A 42-month study in a mangrove lagoon shows that the population is characterised by a variable recruitment pattern on a year-round basis but with infrequent success. The Gompertz function gives a good estimation of growth. The weight-size relationship shows alternative isometric and subdeterminant allometric growth periods. A short life and variable demographic structure seem to be characteristics of lagoon as well as of tropical populations.
