Abstract
Plasma levels of immunoreactive calcitonin were measured in patients with age-related osteoporosis and with post-menopausal osteoporosis and compared to the levels in control subjects. In all studies immunoreactive calcitonin was lower in the osteoporotic patients. Parathyroid hormone [PTH] levels were measured in women with post-menopausal osteoporosis and in control women; no difference was observed between the 2 groups. Calcitonin, but not PH, evidently plays a role in post-menopausal and age-related osteoporosis. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
