FURTHER EVIDENCE ON THE KARYOTYPE OFTRITICUM MONOCOCCUML. ANDTRITICUM DURUMDESF.

Abstract
Data are provided on the lengths and arm ratios of the 7 chromosomes of a Greek variety T. monococcum L. var. vulgare measured at metaphase 1 of root-tips. They were mesocentric to submesocentric and varied in length from 12.29 to 8.36. A small satellite was observed on chromosome 4A at the end of the short arm. Comparisons of the chromosome lenghts and arm ratios of this variety and genome AA of Wichita and Chinese Spring were made. Data were also provided on the total chromosome lengths, arm ratios and size of satellites of the 2 pairs of satellited chromosomes in the genome of another Greek variety T. durum var. leucurum. The results are discussed in reference to the origin of the B genome.
