Abstract
Rate constants of the reactions of OH and O with NO 2, HCO 2, I, H2O2 and HO 2 have been measured using the carbonate competition method at pH 11 and 13. The results are consistent with the rapid establishment of the equilibrium, OH + OH⇌ O+ H2O. The pH dependence of the yield of O 3 in oxygenated alkaline solution is consistent with the rapid establishment of an acid-base equilibrium, pK = 10.4, which is probably HO3+ OH⇌ O 3+ H2O.
