Abstract
Rate constants of the reactions of OH and O– with NO– 2, HCO– 2, I–, H2O2 and HO– 2 have been measured using the carbonate competition method at pH 11 and 13. The results are consistent with the rapid establishment of the equilibrium, OH + OH–⇌ O–+ H2O. The pH dependence of the yield of O– 3 in oxygenated alkaline solution is consistent with the rapid establishment of an acid-base equilibrium, pK = 10.4, which is probably HO3+ OH–⇌ O– 3+ H2O.Keywords
