Abstract
The continued presence of heparin in the blood after intraven. inj. was followed by detns. of the clotting time. Heparin disappears rapidly from the circulation. The rate of disappearance is proportional to the conc. of heparin in the blood. With concs. above 2 units per cc., the rate of disappearance is constant. The application, of these findings in the adm. of heparin is discussed. Normal values for the heparin content of various tissues of the dog, detd. by the method of Charles and Scott (J. B. C., 102, 431, 1933), are reported. Injs. of the anticoagulant did not cause an increase in the amt. present in any tissue except intestine, nor in the urine or feces.
