Abstract
The biochemical characteristics of 10 strains of Aeromonas isolated from clinical material are compared with those of numerous clinical isolates of Serratia marcescens. The role of the extracellular deoxyribonuclease test in distinguishing Serratia marcescens and Enterobacter liquefaciens is questioned. In addition, the antibiograms of Aeromonas and Serratia are presented as a possible aid in characterization. The value of cytochrome oxidase and ornithine decarboxylase tests in the differentiation of Aeromonas and Serratia is discussed
