Abstract
To support and foster youth development, there is a need to study youth programs and activities-in schools, communities, and youth organizations. To expand knowledge of programs and to determine influences on youth development, research should include a diversity of analyses on the current knowledge base, current program status factors, program and participantprocesses, program outcomes, and policy orprogram development. Methodology from current educational, developmental, and other social science research provides illustrations of effective approaches and roles for researchers that could be applied to studying youth programs in short-term and longitudinal studies. Learning more about programs willprovide a more completefoundationfor the emerging field of youth development. Keywords
