Threshold Pion Production in Nucleon-Nucleon Collisions

Abstract

We present results pertaining to threshold

π

production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, obtained in the soft-pion approximation. A typical result is

σ_{tot} (p p \to np π^{+}) = 24

μb at

T_{lab} = 310

MeV, in good agreement with extrapolations from higher energy data.
