The Teaching Nursing Home

Abstract
ALTHOUGH the teaching nursing home concept has received wide dissemination since publication of an article by Butler,1a number of teaching nursing homes already exist in one form or another throughout the country. Some of these programs were shaped from limited resources through innovative thinking and personal energy. As often occurs in academic spheres, however, planned programs are not initiated until funding becomes available. In this article we present one medical school's attempt, by using existing resources, to incorporate fully a nursing home into a geriatric teaching program. The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is a private, free-standing medical school located in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is an industrial city with a population of almost 700,000,14% of whom are older than 60 years.
