Abstract
The theory of Childs and Collis-George for calculation of permeability at all moisture contents from the pore size distr. of a soil is adapted for calculation of water and air permeabilities in unsaturated media from the moisture characteristic. An expt. for the simultaneous measurement of air and water permeabilities in an equilibrium state is descr. for unsaturated unconsolidated isotropic media. The agreement between expt. and theory is satisfactory. Air permeabilities are always greater than water permeabilities at the same fluid porosity. The influence of permeability on air diffusion is discussed.
