DIAGNOSING HYDROCEPHALUS IN INFANTS BY ULTRASOUND SECTOR SCANNING THROUGH THE OPEN FONTANELLES

Abstract
In 96 infants aged 1 day-16 mo.160 examinations of 2 dimensional ultrasound scanning of the skull were performed by an ATL-sector-scanner MARK III. Usually the examination was done through the open anterior fontanelle. Excellent correspondance of the coronar and sagittal ultrasound-sections to performed cranial CATS [computed axial tomography scan] was established. In 8 selected cases advantages and disadvantages of the cerebral sector-sonography relating to the CAT are discussed.
