Abstract
Interest in the biological functions of Zn and Zn nutrition has increased within the last few years. Since the quantity of Zn that is available for absorption at any one point is highly variable, homeostatic mechanisms controlling Zn absorption have evolved. The evidence accumulated in recent years is summarized, and a model is presented which attempts to explain the mechanism of Zn absorption at the level of the intestinal mucosal cell.
