Abstract
FIRST of all, let me express my deep gratitude to you for the privilege of serving you as president of this association for the past year. Many members, I am sure, deserved this position more than I do, but I think there can be none who regard the honor with greater respect than I do. I use the word "respect" both because of my affection for this association and its members and because I have always been impressed by the eminence in the field of American surgery which the organization enjoys. It is small wonder, then, that membership has instilled in me a sense of achievement and a special pride. Recognition in the form of election as your President thus becomes a signal honor, indeed. I must confess that I am disquieted by the responsibility of the President's Address. No doubt my predecessors in this office will agree with meThis publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
