A decision feedback equalizer for multiple-head digital magnetic recording

Abstract
Misalignment of recording head position results in intertrack interference (ITI), which is a primary factor limiting radial density in current magnetic recording systems. An examination is made of the use of multiple read-head recording combined with cross-coupled decision feedback equalization to reduce ITI. The multiple-head array provides much greater tolerance to misalignment than does a single head, and as a result allows a significant increase in radial density.
