Abstract
The adm. of 32,000 g. of NaHC03 over a period of 20 mos. to a patient with normal renal function produced no marked alteration in the acid-base balance and no demonstrable decrease in the urea clearance. The remark-able tolerance to NaHCO3 demonstrated by this patient is attributed to the excellent renal function and reserve capacity of the kidney as well as to the large volume of fluid available for excretion of the alkali. Keywords
