Abstract
Freund and Rubin's ansatz for the ground state of supergravity in 11 dimensions can be easily generalized by allowing a cosmological time dependence of the vacuum expectation value of the antisymmetric tensor field. Some numerical solutions of the corresponding field equations (in the classical approximation) are presented, and the resulting physical picture of the primeval universe is discussed.
