Abstract
Deprotonation of decaborane(14) by trimethylindium yields two derivatives. [Me2ln]+[B10H12lnMe2]– and [B10H12lnMe]. The analogous reaction with trimethylthallium produces [Me2Tl]+[B10H12TIMe2]– and [Me2Tl]+[B10H13]–. The presence of two distinct dimethylmetal groups in the compounds [Me2M]+[B10H12MMe2]–, one of which is co-ordinated by the dodecahydro-nido-decaborate(2–) anion, is based on analytical data, electrical conductivity, i.r. and n.m.r. spectra, and chemical reactions of the compounds. Metathetical reactions of [Me2Tl]+-[B10H12TlMe2]– lead to [Ph3PMe]+[B10H12TlMe2]– and to the new organomercury complex [Ph3PMe]+-[B10H12HgMe]– for which physical data are also presented. Keywords
