Abstract
Temporal order identification thresholds (TOT) for [human] auditory stimuli were believed to be independent of the parameters of the stimuli as long as the judgment of order is (apparently) based directly on the temporal difference rather than modality-specific stimulus interactions associated with the temporal difference. TOT is a direct function of stimulus duration and, at least for longer rise times, is also a function of the rise time of the stimuli. Adding a new tone to the end of the stimulus complex alters TOT only for short duration stimulus compelxes. The relationship between TOT and the perception of speech stimuli contrasted in initial onset characteristics is discussed. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
