Immunoreactive Epidermal Growth Factor in Serum, Plasma, Platelets, and Urine in Patients on Chronic Dialysis

Abstract
In 25 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis the level of epidermal growth factor (EGF) was significantly increased in plasma (61 ± 10 vs. 36 ± 12 pMin 23 age-matched controls; p M, p M/106 platelets in controls; p M). Thus, kidneys are not delivering EGF to blood but their role in EGF removal is possible. Urinary EGF virtually disappears in severe chronic renal failure.
