Abstract
Effects of arterial CO2 and O2 tension (PaCO2 and PaO2, respectively) on the threshold for the inspiratory-augmenting reflex produced by hyperinflations of the lungs were investigated in 12 anesthetized, paralyzed cats. Inflation threshold for elicitation of the inspiratory-augmenting reflex (VT[IT]) increased with increasing levels of PaCO2 and decreased with decreasing levels of PaO2. These effects of PaCO2 and PaO2 on VT(IT) were observed even after bilateral sinus nerve resection. CO2 and O2 may act directly on central mechanisms which are responsible for elicitation of the inspiratory-augmenting reflex. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
