Abstract
In 1913 Ernest Jones published an article entitled “The God Complex” (1) in the course of which he suggested that an unconscious identification with God, when sublimated, was one of the factors which might lead people to a strong interest in psychology and psychiatry. His formulation was based upon the assumption that individuals with this type of character formation had strong exhibitionistic trends, with the usual counterpart of strong scoptophilia and curiosity concerning the private life of others. Keywords
