Probing a Quantum State via Atomic Deflection

Abstract
We present a measurement setup based on the deflection of atoms from a quantized electromagnetic field and a strategy which leads to the knowledge of the complete quantum state of this field. The same setup reveals the expectation value of the phase operator .
