Wind and temperature data from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Southern Rhodesia are analyzed, by the use of twelve-month running means, for the presence of an oscillation of approximately two-year period. Such “biennial” oscillations are found in the Southern Hemisphere for both parameters. In the case of stratospheric winds, for which parameter the data are most widely available, the oscillations extend from the equator to at least 50S and up to a height of 90,000 ft. Comparison is made between Australian ozone and stratospheric wind data.
