Abstract
The spontaneous symmetry breaking in higher-dimensional unified field theories is discussed in a general setting. A purely geometric symmetry-breaking mechanism involving no free parameters is presented, in which the symmetry is broken by the higher-dimensional metric through Einstein’s equation. Keywords
