Abstract
Based on numerous detailed observations on 2 gibbons, born in the Zoo of Zurich, their early physical and behavioral development is described. Special attention has been given to the relations between mother and offspring, the posture of the latter while being carried, nursing and beginning of other feeding and the earlier modes of infantile locomotion. As far as possible, these data are compared with corresponding ones from the literature. One delivery, which could be closely followed, is described in detail. Some observations on copulation are added to complete this account of reproduction in the gibbon.
