Permeability to Carbon Dioxide of the Urinary Bladder of the Dog Not a Direct Cause of High Urine Carbon Dioxide Tensions

Abstract
Acid and alkaline salt solutions containing CO2 were instilled into the temporarily isolated urinary bladder of dogs. Both solutions lost their CO2 at equal rates and approached the same average equilibrium CO2 tension with respect to the blood. Results indicate that high CO2 tensions observed in alkaline urine are due to intrarenal factors rather than to pH-sensitive properties of the lower urinary tract.Keywords
