Abstract
Included are suggested characters to be used in the descrs. of larvae and adults and a glossary of terms. Keys to the world genera and subgenera based on larval and adult characters are given. The following synonymy is presented: Schongastia sciuricola Ewing (=Euschongastia americana Ewing); Blankaartia Oudemans (=Crotiacus Ewing, Trombicula Berlese, Tragardhula Berlese. Pentagonella Thor, and Mega-trombicula Micheher). The possible synonymy of Sauriscus Lawrence and Trisetica Traub and Evans, under Tecomatlana Hoffmann is suggested. Genera reduced to subgeneric status are: Comatacarus Ewing under Leeuwenhoekia Oudemans, Phrynacarus Lawrence under Endotrombicula Ewing, Hyracarus Lawrence, Austrombicula Lawrence, and Austracarus Lawrence, under Acomatacarus Ewing. Fonsecia Radford. Trombiculindus Radford, Eutrombicula Ewing, Leptotrombidium Nagayo et al., Neotrombicula Hirst, and Blankaartia Oudemans, under Trombicula Berlese. 45 references. Keywords
