Abstract
When a beam of neutral alkali atoms is obtained by resonant charge exchange of accelerated ions, the energy of the neutral atoms can be appreciably smaller than the energy corresponding to the accelerating voltage. Energy deficits up to 20% have been measured. The effect can be explained in terms of a space charge distribution. Keywords
