Abstract
Existing research tools developed and utilized by other disciplines were used in analyzing relative community performance. A resource allocation model was used to classify community activities into three major categories of economic, social, and geographic. PopUlation and income changes from 1950 to 1960 were used as dependent variables. Thirty-seven independent variables reflecting changes in each community were combined into 12 factor scores for each community. Factor scores were made in three separate stages: (1) The determination of the common factor space, (2) the rotation of the reference axes in the common factor space, and (3) the estimation of the factor scores. This method ranked each community for each of 12 factors. Combining all the factors ranked the communities. The realistic ranking is evidenced by the model ranking, with the .growth centers high and the communities with limited growth very low. This technique provides a quantitative method which can be used to examine individual community activities in comparison to other communities. Keywords
