Development of Tubular Type SOFC Module by Wet Process

Abstract
TOTO Ltd. and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. have been developing tubular type SOFC with an electrode support by employing the wet process. The initial performance and durability for long-term operation were evaluated for a single cell. As for performance with methane gas as fuel, the power output was 89W at the fuel utilization of 80%. The degradation rate for the long-term generation test was fairly low. Since 1998, TOTO Ltd., Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. and Nippon Steel Corporation have been actively developing a several kW class module consisting of 36 cells. Power output of the module attained 3115 W at a fuel utilization of 70 % for H2+20%CO2+4.2%H2O fuel, used as simulated reforming gas. We are now evaluating the durability performance for the long-term operation of the module. This paper reports recent advances in the development of tubular type cell and module.
