Abstract
PERHAPS OPPONENTS and skeptics of the safety and efficacy of medicinal herbs should take echinacea to improve their immune systems so they can ward off the growing deluge of requests from consumers for these alternative medicines. That's not to say that consumer fashion overrides any scientific and medical discussions about what does and does not help in preventing or treating diseases, but it does mean the debate isn't happening in a vacuum—that physicians are seeing patients who want or are already taking medicinal herbs for treatment.
