Abstract
Total protein is estimated by precipitating with CCl3COOH, dissolving centrifuged deposit in 1 cc. 30% NaOH, adding distilled water up to 9 cc. and 5% CuSO4 up to 10 cc. The mixture is shaken, centrifuged, and the supernatant fluid compared in the colorimeter with a fluid similarly obtained from a standard soln. containing 0.24% serum protein preserved with chloroform. Albumin is estimated by similar treatment of the filtrate obtained after half saturation of serum or urine with (NH4)2SO4. In general, higher results were obtained than when 21.3% Na2SO4 was used. The 2 estimations can be completed in under 45 min., with an error of 5%.
