A new apparatus called the Senograph is described, designed specifically for mammography. The equipment is a mobile x-ray unit with the anode at the end of the tube rather than in the middle, made of molybdenum rather than tungsten. The longer wave length of the K radiation from molybdenum is ideally suited for soft tissue radiography. The exceedingly fine focal spot provides excellent detail. The apparatus is compact, flexible, and easy to use. The patient remains in the upright position, seated upon a stool which can be raised or lowered. The contrast and detail of the mammograms are excellent, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and making the search for microcalcifications more certain. The radiation exposures are well within safe limits.
