Abstract
Adopting a gradient expansion of the local free energy of the inhomogeneous liquid–vapor interface, a formula for the liquid surface tension σ is derived from which the Cahn–Hilliard relation between σ and bulk modulus is shown to follow as the lowest order approximation.Keywords
