Abstract
Suggestions are made to help resolve the discrepancies between LEED and SEXAFS results for the Al-O distance in the Al(111) 1*1-O structure. The need for proper characterisation of a surface structure and for an adequate data base in intensity analyses is emphasised. It is shown that with the LEED data available it is not possible to discriminate between the two proposed interatomic distances. Keywords
