Prediction Method for Projectile Penetration

Abstract
The penetrations of rigid projectiles into earth targets has been studied for years. Recently, applications to remote sensing have been proposed in which interest in penetration for civil applications has been kindled. Such applications include lunar exploration, sea ice thickness determinations, ocean floor exploration, and remote site investigation of swamps, jungles, or other inaccessible sites. Formulas which allow existing data to determine the specific form of the equation are developed and results presented. These equations appear to be quite accurate for the range of conditions considered.
