Abstract
The purpose of this report is to describe an unusual example of acquired hemolytic anemia in which cold auto-antibodies of extremely high titer were detected in the patient's serum. While similar cases have occasionally been reported in the past,1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 the one to be described here exhibited certain important differences having fundamental significance. Previous experience had shown that such patients can generally be safely transfused with any blood of the homologous A-B-O group and Rh type, provided the blood is kept warm during the injection to prevent the cold auto-antibodies from reacting with the transfused cells. Keywords
