Abstract
The addition of a fluorochrome to the spray liquid gives a sensitive method of measuring spray deposits on foliage, soil, wood and paper substrates by extraction and direct estimation techniques. The fluorochromes in current use are described under the headings of water‐soluble dyes, oil‐soluble dyes and pigments. A brief description of the fluorimeter is followed by an account of the way it is used to measure the soluble fluorochromes. Properties of the fluorochromes which are relevant to their use as spray tracers are discussed under the headings of emission spectra, calibration, effect of pH changes and fluorescence stability. A final section on the application of these techniques also gives an indication of extensions to the work. Keywords
